Damion Wan has been appointed to general manager of the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre (ZZICEC) effective immediately. The announcement was made by Cliff Wallace, chairman of Hong Kong, Shanghai Venue Management (Zhengzhou) Ltd. (VMZL), the ZZICEC’s private management and operating company.
Wan joined the ZZICEC as deputy general manager in May 2009 and has served as acting GM since March of this year. He will continue to lead the ZZICEC’s business development efforts and concentrate on positioning the ZZICEC as the model exhibition and convention venue in China, which will contribute to establishing Zhengzhou as one of China’s most respected capital cities for exhibitions and meetings.
“Damion has exhibited integrity, enthusiasm, commitment and dedication in performing his responsibilities since he became part of team over a year ago,” said Monica Lee-Müller, general manager and director of VMZL. “With this well-deserved promotion, I am confident that he will lead the ZZICEC team and meet the objectives of VMZL and the ZZICEC.”
Wan has over 17 years of experience in the exhibition and conference industry in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the Asia Pacific region. He possesses professional knowledge in organizing events, venue management, marketing and sales, and exhibition services contracting.
Additionally, he has held various senior positions at E.J. Krause and Associates Ltd. in Hong Kong and was the GM of Swiftland Limited located in Beijing, which provides management consultancy to exhibition and conference companies, until 2009 when he joined ZZICEC as deputy GM.
VMZL is a joint venture between Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Venue Management China Ltd. and Intex Shanghai Co. Ltd. The private management company has been under contract with Zhengzhou municipal government since May of 2006 vigorously marketing the Centre’s exhibition and meeting facilities to national and global organisers. The ZZICEC opened in the autumn of 2005.
The ZZICEC is located in a newly developed business district of Zhengzhou between the CBD and Zhengzhou’s airport. It has been managed by VMZL since June 1, 2006. The exhibition portion of the ZZICEC includes two major exhibits halls with a total rentable area of over 216, 500 square feet. In addition, there is 124,672 square feet of outdoor exhibition area.
The convention portion of the ZZICEC includes the grand hall, seating up to 3,160 persons, and the international theatre seating 1,090 persons, two smaller theatres and related break-out space for meetings, conferences and hospitality functions.
In 2009, ZZICEC hosted 35 exhibitions and 126 conferences, drawing 1.47 million of attendees from all of China and overseas.
