Voting open for 2015 International Design Excellence Awards

Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) announced the winners of International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions. Among those named were several environmental designs and tools for meetings and event planners.

More than 1,700 professional and student projects from around the globe entered IDEA, as the competition marks its 35th year and IDSA celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2015. And for the first time, which entries won Gold or Silver won’t be revealed until August 22 when the 2015 IDSA International Conference culminates in grand style with the IDEA Ceremony and the Samsung-sponsored, IDEA Gala at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.

The IDEA Jury, led by Chair Matthew Marzynski, IDSA, met to judge the 621 IDEA finalists. The result—28 Gold, 53 Silver and 83 Bronze awards.

Marzynski sees IDEA as history in the making.

“When we look at a design, we’re not just looking at what’s trendy or fashionable at the moment. We have the context of that history of that long line of designers that came before us…. That collective knowledge exists within IDSA, kind of like a living treasure,” he said.

Hadley Exhibits Inc., an exhibit designer and builder, was named for its contribution to the 110,000 square-foot National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York City’s lower Manhattan.

Logitech ConferenceCam Connect videoconference solution also received praise for its multi-device connectivity, 90-degree field of view and a mobile speakerphone featuring Bluetooth wireless technology, Near Field Communication (NFC) and USB.

New IDSA Board of Directors Chair John Barratt—a former IDEA Jury Chair—called the competition “the authority on design” and said IDEA jurying is “the most rigorous and thoughtful” in the world.

The jury has made its choices. Now, you have the chance to pick what you think is the best-of-the-best among the Silver and Gold. Vote online here now through August 21, 2015 for the IDSA IDEA People’s Choice Awards.
