Ventev announces Wi-Fi solutions at CTIA

At CTIA Supermobility Week, North America’s largest forum for mobile innovations held Sept. 9-11 in Las Vegas, CTIA panelist and Wi-Fi expert Jeff Lime, vice president, Ventev Wireless Infrastructure, announced two wireless network solutions for open air environments.

“Today’s [attendees] aren’t surprised when mobile Internet is available. They’re disappointed when it is not,” said Lime.

Approximately one billion smartphones were shipped by the end of 2013, according to Lime, and another seven billion smartphones are predicted to be shipped over the next three years, exceeding the number of people on Earth.

“High density” environments at large venues that lack infrastructure for mounting antennas, like column-less exhibit halls and outdoor stadiums, need to accommodate the large number of simultaneous handheld device users who rely on the same wireless network. Ventev, a division of wireless leader TESSCO Technologies, provides guardrail and handrail antennas to meet that need.

“Ventev’s Handrail and Guardrail solutions enable large venue owners and managers to provide seamless mobile Internet connectivity ensuring attendees will continue to enjoy a satisfying Wi-Fi experience,” Lime added.

TESSCO Handrail Antenna delivers seamless Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Handrail Antenna is a dual-band, broadband 3 dBi directional antenna with a 60/90 degree beam width secured within a compact, watertight polycarbonate enclosure. It attaches to the handrail with a pipe mount and stainless steel fasteners. The antenna includes four low-loss cables with RPSMA or RPTNC connectors to connect to the access point.

The Guardrail Antenna consists of a dual-band 3 dBi antenna housed within a rugged, impact-resistant ABS polycarbonate enclosure. For precise coverage, the internal antenna is field-adjustable with a 20 degree tilt either upwards or downwards. Also installed easily with stainless steel fasteners, four low-loss cables with RPSMA or RPTNC connectors connect to the access point.

Already in use at professional sports stadiums and major theme parks, the antenna systems provide higher bandwidth throughput for uninterrupted connectivity. Both products can be placed inside the rail system without impacting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements while greatly improving the Wi-Fi experience for nearby users.

Providing seamless connectivity and capacity to users, the Handrail and Guardrail Antenna systems round out Ventev’s extensive line-up of creative products for delivering Wi-Fi. Providing creative solutions in both indoor and outdoor environments, Ventev’s products address challenges in interference or other coverage/capacity issues including the simultaneous use of large numbers of devices.

Ventev’s three branded product lines include TerraWave Solutions for Wi-Fi enclosures, antennas and cable assemblies; Ventev for integrated power and outdoor enclosure solutions; and Wireless Solutions for base station infrastructure including towers, site hardware and grounding.
