Valley Forge Tourism president steps down

Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB), a sales and marketing organization, announced that its president will step down effective March 26.

Bill Fitzgerald served as VFTCB president since 2013. While a search is being conducted to replace Fitzgerald, Chairman Michael S. Bowman will be interim president, starting March 27. Fitzgerald will assist him through March 26 to ensure a smooth transition.

“Bill’s leadership over the past two years has been outstanding. His strategic thinking, planning, and overall creativity has positioned the Board for great success and set up the next leader to continue that momentum. We wish him the best, and he’ll always be part of the family,” said Bowman.

Fitzgerald accepted a position with Pyramid Hotel Group as vice president/managing director of the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing.

“This was not an easy decision, either professionally or personally, but I feel confident that VFTCB will – in typical style – adapt, evolve and emerge as strong as ever,” Fitzgerald said.

During Fitzgerald’s tenure, VFTCB went through a top-to-bottom rebranding of the organization. It launched a new “Let Freedom Reign” branding campaign in May 2014 which has quickly generated new excitement and interest in Montgomery County and its numerous tourism and convention destinations. The campaign included a traveling #MakeItMontco kiosk that has already visited more than 20 locations, a multimedia advertising campaign, a robust media relations campaign, “whistle stop” tours through Montgomery County towns to educate residents and elected officials about the new campaign, and a new website.

“In a short time, Bill has made transformational, positive change at VFTCB. Our county is better off because of his vision and hard work. I am grateful to him for his service and wish him the very best in his new position,” said Josh Shapiro, chairman, Montgomery County Commission.

Bowman, president of the Valley Forge Casino & Resort, expressed confidence in VFTCB’s executive team as the search for a new president is launched.

“The VFTCB is highly skilled, and our transformative branding campaign will continue. With the World Meeting of Families coming in 2015 and the Democratic National Convention coming in 2016, VFTCB is well positioned to work with these organizations in fulfilling their needs for hotel rooms and Montgomery County hospitality,” stated Bowman.
