Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau (VFCVB), the not-for-profit organization that markets Montgomery County as a meetings and conventions destination, has named someone to the new position of senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Mark Zimmerman brings with him more than 30 years of hotel experience as general manager, director of sales and regional director of sales and marketing, much of it with Marriott Hotels. Most recently, he was a transportation consultant to the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Zimmerman will report to Paul Decker, Bureau president, and oversee all sales and marketing efforts to attract conventions, meetings, trade and consumer shows and group tours to the destination. He’ll also guide the organization’s consumer marketing and communications efforts.
“I’m tremendously pleased Mark Zimmerman has joined our team following a very thorough, facilitated national search for a proven sales performer and leader,” said Decker. “It became apparent very early to our Board of Directors’ search committee that he represented a great fit professionally, destination and personality-wise.
As director of sales and marketing of the Albany Marriott Hotel and regional director of sales and marketing with Marriott International Group, Zimmerman routinely surpassed revenue goals, received an “outstanding franchise partnership” award and led his staff to recognition as Northeast Region Sales Team of the Year.
Zimmerman sat on the boards of the Albany County and Syracuse convention and visitors bureaus in New York; was a hospitality advisory board member and guest lecturer at State University of New York (SUNY); and a sales and marketing and revenue management class facilitator for the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association. He’s a member of the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association International and earned a degree in Hospitality Management from SUNY at Delhi.
