Registration, IN Zone modified at TS2

The goal of the IN Zone Lounge and Networking Center is to create a fun, innovative space on the show floor.

TS2, Total Solutions Marketing for the Exhibit and Event Professional, is presenting its attendees with a new non-exhibiting supplier registration policy, as well as introducing an innovative next-step to marketing through social networking during the 2010 show, in Boston, July 13-15.

Protecting the interest of its attendees, both exhibiting and non-exhibiting, TS2 is savvy to the financial dynamic of those in their target public.

“The reason for this amendment is that we regard TS2 as a community and have found that while there were suppliers suitcasing the show last year, there are also suppliers with legitimate reasons to be attending the event and we did not mean to discourage them from participating as an active and important part of the TS2 community,” said Shauna Peters, marketing manager for National Trade Productions.

The new policy allows non-exhibitors to walk the show floor for $50 or they can opt for a full registration package of $695, which incidentally, is the same price for the attendee full conference.

The motivation behind the non-exhibiting supplier registration policy change is a common problem in the tradeshow industry.

“This is the first year that TS2 added a non-exhibiting supplier category to our registration,” said Peters. “The decision to add this category was made as a direct response to our Exhibitor Advisory Committee’s comments of an overwhelming number of suppliers suitcasing the 2009 show floor. Since TS2 does not support suitcasing or outboarding, we decided to address this issue by creating a package specifically for suppliers choosing not to exhibit.”

TS2 show management predicts an overall positive reaction to the changes.

“We are listening to our community members at all times and felt there was a good reason to amend this policy,” said Peters. “So far the response to the amendment has been extremely good and we’re looking forward to all aspects of the industry coming together in Boston next month.”

Looking for exciting ways to propel marketing practices, TS2 is also unveiling a social networking center this year. The goal of the new IN Zone Lounge and Networking Center is to create a fun, innovative space on the show floor where all TS2 on-site and virtual attendees can gather and interact with exhibitors, sponsors, speakers and press.

According to Peters, in a central space on the show floor attendees will be able to check email, print session handouts and update their blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. from the show floor. TS2 has also created the hashtags #ts2show and #inzone to allow virtual attendees to keep up-to-date with what’s taking place on the show floor.

The space will include the following features

  • Social Media Lounge: a space for Tweet-ups and meetings of social media groups including plasma screens with Twitter and Facebook feeds streamed live throughout the event.
  • Cyber Café: computer and re-charge stations allowing attendees to hop on the Internet quickly to update their status, blog and check on other social networks.
  • Video Studio: an on-site studio conducting interviews with speakers, exhibitors, partners, and attendees to find out their AHA Moment of the week.
  • Continuing the conversation with thought-leaders: speakers and other industry thought-leaders will be invited to provide tips and tools in 15 minute interviews taking place during show hours.

“We are extremely excited to add this level of interactivity to the show floor,” said Chris Harar, TS² show director. “The virtual and viral nature of today’s world means that TS² will be able to impact a much larger audience this year, than ever before.”

Dana Freker Doody, director of corporate communications at The Expo Group, echoed those comments.

“TS2 management is very forward-thinking in their commitment to bring the latest tools and ideas to its audience,” she said

The IN Zone Lounge and Networking Center is being sponsored by The Expo Group, 3D Media, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, CORT Tradeshow Furnishings, Emilie Barta and Innovative Event Production.
