Loews Coronado Bay Resort appoints managing director

Loews Coronado Bay Resort, a private 15-acre peninsula near San Diego, appointed a managing director.

At Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Brian Johnson will be responsible for overseeing the general operations of the 439-room resort as well as its five restaurants and markets, the 15,000-square-foot Sea Spa and conference facility, which encompasses 65,000 square feet.

“We are delighted that Brian made the move back to Southern California and joined the team at Loews Coronado Bay Resort,” said John Arnett, regional vice president of operations, Loews Hotels & Resorts. “Brian brings a deep understanding of the Loews brand and is a dynamic hospitality industry professional.

Bringing more than 31 years of hospitality-industry experience to his role as managing director, Johnson previously served as managing director of Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, a 398-room property nestled in Arizona’s Catalina Foothills.

“I am very excited to join Loews Coronado Bay Resort as managing director,” said Johnson. “Being in such a pristine location—a private 15-acre peninsula in the seaside community of Coronado—makes the property truly unique. I am looking forward to continuing my leadership with Loews Hotels & Resorts, and coming back to beautiful San Diego.”

He began his career with Loews Hotels & Resorts as general manager for the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, Fla. Prior to Loews, Johnson worked with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, where he began his career in 1983 at the Sheraton Harbor Island East, which is now the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina.

Johnson received his Bachelor of Arts in Hotel Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Seven years later, he received a master’s degree in Marketing from National University. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his work in the hospitality industry as well as in the community.
