IAEE adds student chapter at University of Houston

International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), the largest association of the exhibitions and events industry in the world, added a student chapter at the University of Houston. This is the third IAEE student chapter established within the last year.

“With the addition of the University of Houston to our growing list of student chapters, IAEE expands its goals toward building awareness and participation to engage the young professionals entering the workforce as established in our strategic plan,” said IAEE President and CEO David DuBois, CAE, CMP, FASAE, CTA.

Founded in 1927, the University of Houston (UH) is the top public research university in Houston, Texas. UH is attended by more than 40,750 students in over 300 undergraduate and graduate academic programs, on campus and online each year. With over 224,000 alumni, UH awards more than 8,000 degrees annually. Exhibition and event management is taught through the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

“There is a strong presence of exhibition and event facilities in Houston, so it seemed only natural to form a chapter in the area,” said Anthony Caterina, lecturer at UH and faculty advisor for the new student chapter. “Our mission includes introducing IAEE to our international students, as IAEE is active in many home countries of those students.

“It also includes helping establish networking opportunities for our students to gain hands-on experience. We highly encourage local IAEE members to reach out to us and welcome them to speak at our meetings. UH is excited to be part of such an international and established organization.”

Other IAEE student chapters are located at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Georgia State University; Johnson and Wales University; and DePaul University.
