Funding scheme interrupted for planned Texas convention hotel

Originally scheduled to open in Irving, Texas by 2015, a $90-million interconnected convention center hotel seems to have stalled due to lack of funding.

Announcements surfaced earlier this year that a Westin Hotels & Resorts-operated hotel would break ground to include a 20,000 square-foot meeting space, 350 guestrooms and 300 parking spaces. This property was also supposed to be connected via a skyway to the 275,000 square-foot Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Irving

City of Irving and Mortenson Development partnered to finance the project. The partnership ended this past July after the developer was unable to meet its financial obligation.

The project remains delayed until a new funding scheme can be implemented with a new partner. The Irving City Council is currently looking at proposals from other developers and may request other proposals in the next couple of weeks.
