Congress reauthorizes Brand USA

Congress voted to reauthorize Brand USA, America’s first global consumer, for another five years following the U.S. Travel Association’s “Brand USA Day of Action” on Dec. 2. Basic RGBCreated in 2010 by the bipartisan Travel Promotion Act, the public-private partnership implemented marketing campaigns to promote international travel to the U.S.

“In the three short years of Brand USA’s existence, we have seen the incredible return on investment by promoting the U.S. overseas, welcoming an extra 1 million international travelers to our shores,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO, U.S. Travel.

The omnibus fiscal package to fund the bill would support the 1.1 million incremental visitors and $3.4 billion in revenues already benefitting the U.S. following its passage. Likely to pass in both the House and the Senate, the bill would be presented to the President to be signed into law.

“The massive tax revenues, the creation of unexportable jobs, and the positive contribution to our trade balance are all tremendous economic opportunities felt by communities large and small across the country,” Dow added. “We urge Congress to enact this legislation during the lame-duck session, so Brand USA can be reauthorized and its economic promise and benefits can continue.”
