“Congratulations to this latest class of CMPs,” said Cathy Breden, CAE, CMP, COO, IAEE and chair, CMP board of directors. “The CMP designation sets the standard and the July 2010 CMP class demonstrates a high level of expertise. The CMP board of directors applauds the continued dedication and commitment to the profession of meeting management.”

The CMP program, established in 1985, is designed to increase the professionalism of meeting managers in all sectors of the industry; recognize and raise industry standards, as well as increase the value of these practitioners to their employers.

The demand for this designation continues to increase as both employers and meeting professionals realize the depth of knowledge and recognition to the profession that this certification brings.

Since its inception, the CMP designation has been earned by more than 14,000 meeting professionals in 36 countries and territories worldwide.

“We are thrilled to bestow the designation on another class of meeting professionals,” said Christina Buck, CMP, CMP program director. “The CMP is a highly sought after certification within our industry because it demonstrates an elevated knowledge level and professionalism as a result of passing a rigorous examination.”

Obtaining the CMP designation is a two-part process consisting of an application and a written examination, administered and monitored by an independent testing agency. Eligibility to take the examination is based on an extensive review of professional qualifications; candidates must have at least three years of employment in the meetings industry, and demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings. Additionally, each applicant must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of industry specific continuing education, or a meeting management internship. The comprehensive written examination tests knowledge of all functions of meeting management.

The next North American CMP exam is scheduled for January 8, 2011. The CMP is one of the signature programs maintained by the CIC that provide value to the convention industry and hospitality field.
