Boise Center set to expand

Eyeballing a possible expansion effort of the Boise Center is the Greater Boise Auditorium District in Idaho.

Concerned that it is operating at capacity and has been forced to turn away conventions, District officials have signed a letter of intent with a local developer to construct two buildings with about 43,000 square feet of meeting, kitchen, ballroom and function space.

The move would allow the convention center’s space to double from 50,000 square feet to 93,000 square feet.

The expansion has a price tag of more than $25 million, of which most has already been financed through hotel lodging taxes.

Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2014 with a 2016 completion date.
