BlogHer celebrates 10 years at San Jose Convention Center

Welcome back to San Jose Convention Center BlogHer — the world’s largest event for bloggers and social media influencers!

On July 28, a party celebrating the conference’s 10-year anniversary in San Jose kicked off with officials from Ruckus Wireless, SmartWAVE Technologies, BlogHer, Team San Jose and City of San Jose.

With over 4,100 attendees expected, BlogHer ‘14 is generating an estimated 3,270 hotel room nights and more than $2.27 million in visitor spending to San Jose.

“We are extremely excited to celebrate our 10-year anniversary where it all began, in the heart of Silicon Valley, and be the first convention to utilize the facilities’ new Wi-Fi technology,” said Elisa Camahort Page, co-founder and chief operation officer, BlogHer. “In the past decade, we’ve grown from 300 attendees to more than 4,000 expected this year. BlogHer’s 10th anniversary theme of “selfiebration” celebrates the blogosphere’s breadth, diversity and future.”

The welcome home party featured conference attendees competing in a blogging Wi-Fi speed test – testing the convention center’s new “Wickedly Fast Free Wi-Fi.”

“The convention center’s new ‘Wickedly Fast Free Wi-Fi’ provides best-in-class wireless infrastructure to meet the high-density demands of convention traffic,” said Victor Shtrom, co-founder, Ruckus Wireless.

The conference features a robust list of keynote speakers, including Arianna Huffington, Kerry Washington, Guy Kawasaki, Jenny Lawson and a performance by Rev Run from Run-D.M.C. at the closing party.

“We are celebrating a homecoming,” said Michael Mulcahy, chairman of the board, Team San Jose. “BlogHer’s enthusiasm and innovative spirit are a testament to their San Jose roots, and we are honored to welcome their return to where it all began.”

Wickedly Fast Free Wi-Fi

With a $1.5 million technology investment, The San Jose Convention Center now offers free Wi-Fi, extending the City’s popular ‘Wickedly Fast Free Wi-Fi’ already offered at the Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and within downtown San Jose—delivering reliable, fast, free Wi-Fi connectivity to millions of business travelers and conference attendees – an experience that only happens in the Capital of Silicon Valley.

The new in-house service approach offers significantly more bandwidth and more affordable solutions than competitors. Team San Jose estimates saving clients up to 10 percent in technology services with options available to fit the needs of different types of meetings, increase flexibility and reduce costs to meeting planners.
