Barbican in London Marks 35th Anniversary with Cultural ‘Firsts’ and Offers to Bookers

Barbican 35th AnnOne of the world’s leading conference and international arts venues, the Barbican Centre, based in the heart of the City of London, celebrated its 35th anniversary this month.

To mark the occasion, the leading international venue launched a digital collection of 35 of its cultural ‘Firsts’ from the last three and a half decades. The ‘Firsts’ demonstrate the impact of the Centre on the UK’s cultural landscape and represent all the Barbican’s art forms – music, theatre, dance, visual arts and film – as well as its creative learning program. The Barbican is also offering one free delegate space for every thirty-five spaces that are booked as part of a package, such as Day Delegate Rates and summer parties, taking place in May or June 2017.

In 2016, £2.2million was invested into the facilities at the Barbican to strengthen its position one of the world’s leading international arts centers.

“We are delighted to be celebrating 35 years at the Barbican and what better way to show our clients than to give something back with this offer” commented Jackie Boughton, head of business events at the Barbican. “We made significant changes last year to the venue to improve excellence in both the business events and the cultural sides of the business, and it’s worked. Further to the improvements to the facilities, the extra attention has seen a surge in interest and enquiries for available event spaces across the Barbican and we continue to exceed our targets.”

A world-class arts and learning organization, the Barbican pushes the boundaries of all major art forms including dance, film, music, theatre and visual arts. Its creative learning programme further underpins everything it does. Over 1.1 million people attend Barbican events annually, hundreds of artists and performers are featured, and more than 300 staff work onsite. The architecturally renowned centre opened in 1982 and comprises the Barbican Hall, the Barbican Theatre, the Pit, Cinemas One, Two and Three, Barbican Art Gallery, a second gallery The Curve, foyers and public spaces, a library, Lakeside Terrace, a glasshouse conservatory, conference facilities and three restaurants. The City of London Corporation is the founder and principal funder of the Barbican Centre.

The Barbican is home to Resident Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra; Associate Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra; Associate Ensembles the Academy of Ancient Music and Britten Sinfonia, and Associate Producer Serious. Its Artistic Associates include Boy Blue Entertainment, Cheek by Jowl and Michael Clark Company. International Associates are Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
