Association of Women in Events Announces 2018 Term Board of Directors

The Association for Women in Events, a not for profit organization supporting gender equality and diversity in the events industry, has announced its 2018 term board members. The association received a significant number of applications for the ten available board positions. The succession planning task force spent several weeks vetting candidates for these important leadership roles. The board of directors is expected to guide the vision of the association and shape the community surrounding the organization.

The 2018 incoming board members:
Ashley Marie Hayes – global accounts manager, HelmsBriscoe
David Kliman – owner, The Kliman Group
Antwone Stigall, CMP, DES – chief events officer, Antwone Stigall & Co
Danielle Duran Baron – chief marketing officer, ABET
Mas Tadesse – meetings manager, American Dental Education Association*
Jackie Richards – VP human resource & Development, Experient
Shameka Jennings, MTA, CMP, DES – education and events manager, national WIC association
Valerie Sumner – owner, VRS Meetings & Events Inc.
Judy Chambers, CEM – sales executive, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority
Cattleya Wongkongkatap, CMP – director of events, Milken Institute School of Public Health*
*existing board members re-elected

“AWE looks forward to welcoming the 2018 slate of board members,” says Carrie Abernathy (pictured above)  CMP, CEM, CSEP, AWE co-founder and president. “The quality of applications was outstanding and we had a very hard decision choosing AWE’s future leaders. I believe you’ll see the caliber of our incoming board is exceptional and we look forward to having them contribute to driving the vision and mission of our organization in the future.”

AWE is an inclusive community dedicated to the professional advancement of women in all facets of the events industry. The focus of AWE is to build a strong community where women inspire women, help others and take control of their careers. AWE facilitates the resources and connections to identify professional solutions, mentors and opportunities for women. The board members hold two-year roles. New board members were chosen from an array of fields including education, media, government, corporate and hospitality. The official 2018 board of directors roster will be published on their website in January 2018.

The Association for Women in Events is an inclusive community dedicated to the professional advancement of women in all facets of the events industry.
