2013 PACK EXPO to provide many free sessions for attendees

Center for Trends & Technology (CTT) will present five one-hour conference sessions each day of the show. Led by experts from Cisco, Jacobs Automation, Microsoft, Motorola Solutions, Rockwell Automation and Spectrum Control, the sessions will provide insight into security, line integration, remote access, cloud strategies and more.

Sessions are free for PACK EXPO Las Vegas attendees, and no advance registration is required to participate. PACK EXPO will be a resource for total systems solutions across the manufacturing supply chain, with more than 1,600 exhibitors. More than 26,000 attendees from around the world are expected to attend the show.

The official schedule of sessions:

Monday, September 23

Exploring Packaging Line Integration Techniques
Rockwell Automation
9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Packaging lines are often made up of varying equipment types containing disparate control systems, programming styles and performance data, even when industry standards such as ISA-88 and PackML are followed. This makes integration of these assets into line control and line performance systems a challenge. While most manufacturers strive to continually optimize their production, integration of new packaging line assets is often a time consuming and costly task. Learn how new line integration concepts and technologies are enabling manufacturers to acquire machines with pre-tested equipment control and information interfaces that integrate seamlessly with a flexible line control and performance management system.

Don’t Waste Your WAGES
Rockwell Automation
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Learn how by leveraging your existing automation, information and power control investments; you can make your operations more energy efficient and profitable. By monitoring, analyzing, visualizing, controlling and optimizing WAGES (water, air, gas, electricity and steam) resources, many companies are now using less energy in their facilities and operations – enabling an optimized approach to energy resource consumption and supply.

Efficient, Precise Motion Control with Linear Motion
Jacobs Automation
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Hear about how emerging linear motor based intelligent track (iTRAK) technology is changing application solutions across the industry. This session will look at the evolution of the iTRAK system by Jacobs Automation. While previous motion-control systems have been constrained by mechanical limitations like the pitch of a chain or the speed of a particular line, iTRAK makes it possible to place multiple movers (or carriages) on a track and independently control the motion profile for each mover as a virtual axis. Learn how machine builders are able to increase the speed and flexibility of their products and reduce their design and assembly costs while end users experience dramatically increased productivity with higher throughput, faster changeovers and lower maintenance.

The Network Security Journey
Cisco, Rockwell Automation
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

This session will focus on the security recommendations and key considerations to help you design and deploy a plant-wide EtherNet/IP network infrastructure. Topics to be covered include defense-in-depth holistic security approach, industrial network security framework and robust solutions to help you improve your network availability, integrity and confidentiality.

Remote Asset Management in the Cloud
Microsoft
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Hear how you can leverage exciting new cloud strategies to understand how your equipment is performing in the field, drive greater accountability for the performance and warranty of your machines, and potentially create new service-based offerings for your customers. You will hear several real examples of how machine builders across different industries have worked with Rockwell Automation and Microsoft to design cloud-based strategies for remote Asset Performance Management and create real differentiation for themselves in their markets.

Secure Remote Access
Spectrum Control
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Gaining insight into the performance of your of automation machinery is the key to optimizing your operations and preventing costly downtime events. Understanding the health of your system is of utmost importance with high hourly costs and the potential for extended loss of production. In this session, you’ll learn how leading edge companies are leveraging their control system data and remote access to monitor their assets’ performance parameters to reduce downtime, expedite troubleshooting, maximize productivity and optimize their automation systems.

Driving Efficiencies with Robot Integration
Rockwell Automation, Intelligrated
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This session will explore how robots are being applied to help reduce line costs, improve reliability, flexibility and operator safety. Intelligrated will share how advancements in robotics, vision and software helped deliver solutions for mixed pallet load creation, making the challenges of building unique pallet loads to customer specifications a thing of the past.

The Critical Success Factors & ROI of Deploying Mobility on Your Plant Floor
Motorola Solutions
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

A recent study by Gartner uncovered that the No. 2 highest priority of Manufacturing CIOs through 2015 is mobility. But what are the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for a mobility project on the industrial plant floor, and how can you establish a compelling enough ROI to move forward among other efforts competing for the same set of limited resources? In this session, executives from Motorola Solutions and a leading Rockwell Automation OEM Partner join forces to discuss key considerations for successfully justifying and launching an industrial mobile solution for your operators and technicians. Together they will review a few real-life examples from leading manufacturers that have recently embraced the power of mobility on their plant floor to demonstrate the incredible payback that can be achieved when extending the reach and accessibility of vital information.

Trends in Enterprise & Plant-wide Ethernet Networks
Cisco, Rockwell Automation
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Hear about the convergence of business network systems and plant floor network systems. Learn the design and deployment considerations to achieve seamless integration of Machine Builder’s network solutions into the plant-wide network infrastructure. Listen to the lessons learned from a machine builder (Aagard) in designing their “convergence ready” network solution so that it can seamlessly integrate your plant network.
